the timucua and the calusa

The Timucua and Calusa tribes lived in Florida over 240 years ago. The Timucua tribe lived on the Northeastern coast and the Calusa lived on the Southwest coast. The Calusa built their homes on stilts because of the water and the Timucua built their homes with palm trees. The Timucua tribe ate wild animals and fish. The Calusa tribe ate mainly sea food. The Timucua tribe had special ceremonies to honor the leaders who died. When the Spanish explorers discovered Florida and met these tribes the explorers thought the Timucua tribe was a friendly tribe, not like the Calusa who were a “fierce tribe”.
