References and Resources: A Guide


You MUST cite (include in your bibliography) any and all outside information that you used to help write your assignment. That includes: A bibliography is presented in alphabetical order by the authors’ last names.

If you have the same author more than once, put it in order of the date in which each text was written.

Remember, each word in a title must be capitalized.

Books

Author’s last name and first initial. (date) Title of Book. Publishing House, City.

Example:

Sachar, L. (1998) Holes. Scholastic, Inc., New York.

Movies

Director’s last name and first initial (date) Title of Movie. Country

Example:

Browning, T (1931) Dracula. USA

Magazine Articles

Author’s last name and first initial. (date) Title of Article. Name of Magazine. Volume number, Issue number, page numbers.

Example:

Kluger, J. (2000) City of Mummies. Time (Canadian Edition) Vol. 156, No. 12, pp58-61.

Newspaper Articles

Author’s last name and first initial OR Associated Press or Canadian Press (date) Title of Article. Name of Newspaper, City.

Example:

Thompson, E. (04/12/02) Young Women Most at Risk of Violence, Spousal Homicide. The Gazette, Montreal.

Web Pages

Author’s last name and first initial (date) Title of web page. Owner of web page (who has the copyright, find this at the bottom of your web page) Full web address

Example:

Jeffers Goodell, J (2002) Learning HTML for Kids. Jill Jeffers Goodell http://www.goodellgroup.com/tutorial/

Images and Pictures

If you got the image from the Internet, a book, a magazine, or a newspaper, use the correct format above for citing the source.
