Letter Writing Tips


A well-worded letter is one in which you make your point in a manner that demonstrates how your opinions will effect the person to whom you are writing. The following information will help you to write a purposeful letter.

Address
Be sure the address is correct.

Who are you?
Identify yourself and why you are writing the letter. Always include your full mailing address in the letter.

What are you writing about?
Be very clear as to the purpose of your letter.

What is your position?
Again, be very clear as to why you are writing and what you hope to accomplish with the letter.
Urge the person to whom you are writing to take a specific action, and also request a reply to your letter.

Be brief and concise.
Keep your letter to one or two pages. Be sure to write clearly, professionally and legibly.
